There’s never a wrong time to instill a love of learning in children – finding opportunities to weave literacy into your routine can be easy, fun and beneficial in the long-run. Consider these ideas:
- Designate family “reading time” each day. As your child gets older and acquires more skill, keep that time to read separate books, together.
- Put kids’ books all over your house so that literature is always within reach
- Encourage your child to scribble on paper or have them help you “write” out the grocery list or “sign” that card for grandma.
- Even the way we speak about reading can impact how our kids feel about it. Think “Oh this book must be your favorite, you pick it every night!” versus “Not THIS book again.”
