Nyatché Martha
Music & Movement Teacher
Nyatché Martha is a theatre artist and early childhood educator with a passion for helping young children explore their world through movement and play. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Orange NJ, she comes to this role after spending five years in Boston, where she received her BFA in Theatre and Performance from Emerson College. During her time there, she studied Linklater Voice Technique, Laban Movement Analysis, and the Viewpoints framework for creating new work, among other approaches. Her theatre training deepened her understanding of how voice, movement, rhythm, and imagination can be powerful tools for connection and learning. Her interest in the performing arts began with her upbringing in Montessori and independent school environments. Coming from a multicultural background—Haitian and Dutch-Curaçaoan—she grew up surrounded by family traditions rooted in music and dance. These experiences shaped her appreciation for environments that encourage curiosity, play, and a child’s sense of agency. As a theatre artist, she is especially interested in how following impulse and creating collaboratively can help children express themselves and connect with others.
Nyatché began her relationship with Tessa International in 2019, working in the summer camp program as an assistant teacher with the French group. There, she learned how to care for and engage children across a wide age range while creating a space where every child could feel seen and included. Her experiences working with young children have strengthened her passion for social-emotional development, particularly during the Nursery 4 years, when children are beginning to discover more about their emotions, independence, and relationships with others. She is drawn to the ways that creative play can give children the freedom to explore these discoveries while developing confidence in themselves and connection with those around them.
In her Music and Movement class, Nyatché hopes to create a space where children feel comfortable being curious, expressive, and very silly—where they can bounce, clap, sing, dance, and giggle alongside their classmates. Her theatre background allows her to bring rhythm and imagination into the classroom in ways that support creative expression and social-emotional growth. She loves experimenting with drums, other percussive instruments such as the body itself, and she absolutely loves to sing. Nyatché is excited to collaborate with the Music and PSPE instructors to create an engaging experience throughout a busy school day, and above all, to build a classroom where children feel safe to explore. Soft bellies, strong breaths, and big smiles!!!
